Geelong Camera Club Era, Winter 2012, Opens May 12

The inaugral Bell Street Fiesta kicks off on May 12th 2012. Bell Street has a rich surfing culture from the 1960s days of the old Torquay Hotel and Owen Yatemans band, "The Desert" cafe, Dubbie Davis's ice creams and milk shakes, Rip Curl's beginning with Doug "Claw" Warbrick, Brian Singer and Terry Wall's Bell Beach Surf Shop and "Mumbles" Walker's garage.

To celebrate the Fiesta we decided to showcase Barrie Sutherland's historic portfolio of award-wining black & white prints which he exhibited at the Geelong Camera Club's monthly competitions from 1963 to 1966. The prints are the original handcrafted dark-room prints refurbished in new frames and mat boards. All the prints on display won places and many went onto represent the club in the Victorian Association of Photographic Salons (VAPS) annual competitions for the best Victorian prints of the year. The prints include the first ever surf industry advertisment from Torquay and surf action print. They're printed on fibre board, dry tissue mounted and have stood the test of time.

Bell Beach Easter Contest 50 Years Anniversary, Opens April 16

Easter 2011 celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Bells Easter Contest. The history is rich, the surfing is hardcore, the surfers and characters are many and the Bell always rings for the victor.

Barrie Sutherland's historic portfolio of images captures the Contest during the 1960s, from the biggest waves ever seen at Bells Beach to much smaller days. For this special anniversary, WaterMarks Gallery has released a limited edition set of 26 images from Barrie's best-of-the-best Bells photographs. Printed on fine art cotton rag with edition and registration numbers.
